About Our Office

The Craig Mountain Supervisory Area office is located in Craigmont, Idaho. The Area's duties include natural resource management of state-owned lands, as well as regulatory responsibilities, including hazardous fuel management, private land forest practices and fire suppression. The area encompasses approximately 450,000 acres of fire protection and includes the Lower Salmon and Hells Canyon. There are 43,504 acres of state endowment lands, of which 24,296 acres are timbered. The Area has seven permanent employees, four eight-month employees and averages ten summer employees (smoke chasers).

Jay Sila, Area Manager

Clark Christiansen is the Private Forestry Specialist for the Craig Mountain Supervisory Area. Clark transferred to the Craig Mountain Area Office in July of 2004 from the Clearwater Supervisory Area office in Orofino. Clark has over 17 years of experience in timber management with the Department of Lands. He is responsible for Forest Practices issues, Stewardship Forestry Programs and provides free private forestry assistance.

Rob Pentzer is a Lands Resource Supervisor. Rob started his career with the Idaho Department of Lands in 1996 at the Craig Mountain Area Office as a smoke chaser. Rob is a Highland (Craigmont) High School graduate and received his Forestry degree from the University of Idaho in 2002. He worked as Resource Technician at the Maggie Creek Area Office until his promotion to permanent status. Rob's duties include timber management, road maintenance, land use planning and inventory. Rob is responsible for the harvesting of 5 MMBF per year, which is the largest workload for an individual forester in the state.

Tim Tevebaugh is the Assistant Fire Warden at Craigmont. He began his career on the Kootenai National Forest in 1978 working in fire and fuels. He was a McCall Smokejumper from 1984 to 1986. In 1987 he worked for the Priest Lake Supervisory Area. He was a Nez Perce Smokejumper in Grangeville from 1988 to 2000. In 2001 he accepted a permanent position as a Fuels Specialist on the Superior National Forest in Minnesota. In 2005 he moved back to Idaho and returned to the Department of Lands.

JeAnn Willson is the Area's Timber Technician. Her duties consist primarily of assisting in the setting up of timber sales and implementing the Area's direct sales. JeAnn also assists with range and wildfire suppression and monitors and sprays noxious weeds on state land. JeAnn has worked for the Craig Mountain Area since 1992.
