Abandoned Mine Land Program Photo Gallery #1

Photo Gallery #1 - Pictures on this page represent the work of the US Forest Service, in cooperation with the Idaho Department of Lands and the Bureau of Land Management, to close four adits and four shafts on private (7) and BLM (1) land at the Copper Queen Mine near Lemhi Pass in Lemhi County, Idaho. The Idaho Department of Lands provided funding through the Abandoned Mine Land Account. The Copper Queen Mine is close to the top of Lemhi Pass where Lewis and Clark and the Corp of Discovery crossed into Idaho from Montana in 1805. Closing the adits (tunnels) and shafts has made it safer for travelers who might stop on top of the pass during the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial.

(Photos below show abandoned adits and shafts or abandoned underground workings at the Copper Queen Mine near Lemhi pass in Lemhi County. The photos showing timbers going into the ground horizontally are adits or tunnels and the vertical openings are shafts. Some photos show access roads.
