IDL Scholarships available for 2012

Bring Life to Your Community - Plant Trees

The Idaho Department of Lands Community Forestry Program is making available five scholarships of $500 each to attend the Community Tree Management Institute (CTMI). CTMI is a continuing educational curriculum consisting of educational sessions specifically tailored to the needs of municipal parks, planning, or public works employees who have tree related responsibilities in their city.

A joint effort between the Oregon Department of Forestry and the Washington Department of Natural Resources, CTMI now offers the majority of educational sessions online through a new partnership with Alaska and Idaho. Because of this expanded partnership, CTMI is now open to any municipal employee in all of these states, including ours. There are five sessions from March through October, with face-to-face meetings for the first and last sessions and three online sessions in between. ISA Certified Arborists may obtain up to 20 credits for attending the CTMI. Since 1994, over 120 people have completed this course. The 2012 CTMI is open to any municipal employee in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Idaho.

CTMI is appropriate for anyone who coordinates community forestry issues, reviews tree plans, issues permits, or inspects trees in your city. Click here to open a brochure on CTMI, along with an application form. The $500 scholarship will cover the registration fee ($250—which includes all course materials, food costs for Session I, and both food and lodging costs for Session V), plus $250 that can be used toward travel costs for both in-person sessions and lodging for session I.

If interested in a scholarship, please send this completed application to David Stephenson (address below) by December 31, 2011:
