Volunteer Fire Assistance

PROGRAM TITLE Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) - Sponsors - Idaho Department of Lands in cooperation with USDA Forest Service
DESCRIPTIONS US Forest Service grants to State Foresters through State and Private grants under authority of Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978 (regular program and National Fire Plan)
RECIPIENTS Funds pass through State Foresters to rural local fire service in communities of 10,000 people or less
OBJECTIVES Organize, train and equip Fire Departments
MATCH REQUIREMENTS Fire departments/districts must be able to provide a hard (cash) match of at least 10% of grant funds being requested.

Federal Excess Property

PROGRAM TITLE Federal Excess Property (FEPP)
DESCRIPTIONS US Forest Service equipment loan to State Foresters under authority of the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978 and Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949 (long-term program)
RECIPIENTS State forestry programs and local Volunteer Fire Service through the State Foresters
OBJECTIVES Provides assistance to state, county and local governments by providing excess federal property (equipment, supplies, tools) to be used for wildland and rural community fire
MATCH REQUIREMENTS No match required. Recipients responsible for accountability and assuring legitimate use.

OBJECTIVES Provides fire districts with wildland fire equipment, training or prevention material

PROGRAM TITLE Bureau of Land Management - Rural Fire Assistance (RFA)
DESCRIPTIONS Bureau of Land Management provides up to $20,000 to rural fire departments for wildland fire fighting (National Fire Plan)
RECIPIENTS BLM to rural fire departments serving 10,000 people or less; next to BLM land or assist BLM
OBJECTIVES Provides fire departments with wildland fire equipment, training and/or prevention materials
MATCH REQUIREMENTS 10% in additional wildland equipment OR "In Kind" services, such as wildland urban interface education
