Industry Forester – Technical Specialist (THSP) (31.5 hours)

Once someone is qualified as an Industry Forester – Technical Specialist, they can work with equipment on IDL fires on their lands when NWCG qualified personnel are unavailable. IDL does not expect the Industry Forester to be committed beyond initial attack of the fire. Exceptions can be made where technical expertise may be needed to meet suppression, salvage, or rehabilitation objectives.

The training commitment to become and Industry Forester – Technical Specialist (THSP) is 31.5 hours.

IDL will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE – fire shelter, fire shirt, fire pants) as needed for foresters working as a Technical Specialist. Foresters need to provide their own boots, hard hats, and gloves.

S-130 Firefighter Training and S-190 Wildland Fire Behavior must be completed online or with an approved provider.

Required Training

Keep all certificates for your records.

S-130

Firefighter Training course completed one time (22 hours).

S-190

Wildland Fire Behavior completed one time (7 hours).

IDL Industrial Training

IDL Industry Training or RT-130 must be completed annually.

RT-130

Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher. Can be completed instead of IDL Industry training.

Work Capacity Test

Ensures a person is physically capable of the minimum fitness requirements and must be completed annually.

IDL Certification

Operator/Forester supplies Contractor with proof of training. IDL issues Certification Cards. Anyone requesting to become certified must be sponsored by an Industry Contractor.
