Grazing Leasing

The Idaho Department of Lands manages grazing leases through several processes depending on the current lease status of the land.

The following categories will help you understand when and how to apply:

Expiring Leases:

Leases that will expire within the next three years are listed for advance notice.

• Application Period: January 1 – April 30 of the lease’s expiration year
• Applications must be submitted during this window to be considered
• Please contact the area office listed in the lease information sheet for application details and requirements

We encourage interested parties to apply. Multiple applications for an expiring lease are expected and help ensure a fair and competitive process.

Available Leases:

These are parcels that are currently unleased.

• Applications may be submitted at any time
• Unleased land is relatively uncommon, but opportunities do arise

If you are interested in a listed parcel, you are encouraged to apply when it becomes available.

Upcoming Auctions:

An auction is scheduled when there is interest from more than one applicant.

• When two or more applications are received for the same expiring or available lease, the lease will be offered at auction
• Auctions ensure a transparent and competitive process for awarding the lease
