In 2021, the Idaho Department of Lands finalized a land exchange with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, adding 7,152 acres to Idaho’s Public School Endowment. The exchange involved 23,878 acres of endowment land and 31,030 acres of BLM land in Owyhee County, balancing values at just over $5.3 million each, with IDL paying a $30,000 difference.
Approved by the Land Board on January 19, 2021, the deal closed on October 8, 2021—expanding Idaho’s working lands to better support public schools for generations to come.
