Governor to proclaim May Wildfire Awareness Month

Wednesday April 26, 2023

Boise - Governor Brad Little will proclaim May to be Wildfire Awareness Month, calling on all Idahoans to prepare for the threat wildfire represents to families and communities.

The Governor will sign the proclamation on Friday at the Wildland Firefighters Monument at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise.

With fire season quickly approaching, there is no better time for all Idahoans to learn about protecting their homes and families from wildfire. Creating defensible space around homes should be a high priority for all who live near forestland or rangeland.

Creating a fire resistant environment not only better protects homes, but makes it a safer environment for wildland firefighters. The monument reminds us of the heavy price firefighters can pay protecting our communities and natural resources.
